Five things you need to own NOW

Awards season is in full swing, hurrah. While most of us won’t be taking everyday style tips from the unattainable, otherwordly glamour of the Oscars or the Globes, we can still look to certain ceremonies for sartorial inspiration. Take for example the young pop folk at The Brits. We learnt lots from The Brits this year; we learnt that the former heartthrob Andrew Ridgely is in bits, that Simon Cowell was a malevolent father figure to One Direction which is why they probably broke up (fact) and that Robbie Willliams still thinks he’s deadly even though he’s rubbish. However, one of the most important things that we gleaned from the poor man’s Grammy however, is that the 90’s, are back with a bang. Channelling Madonna’s Gaultier-mannish-tailoring years, pop icon Katy Perry wore some slouchy slacks and some Cons with aplomb.

Anyway taking inspiration from the 90s ourselves, here’s this week’s Gimme 5.

the trousers

More MC Hammer than Madge but totally 90’s nonetheless, these trousers are typical of the early decade. The gold poppers at the side are sewn in so not to worry they are not stripper pants and won’t be coming undone, well not without a good tug!

the top

Channelling the golden years of Salt’n’Peppa, there’s nothing like a bit of mesh and black jersey. This peplum top is da bomb.

the bangle

Rachel Swan’s piece are “influenced by sleek aesthetics, architecture and sculpture”, all handmade and crafted in Dublin. This revolver bangle is an investement piece, cool for layering or individual enough.

the trainers

Converse have been quietly making their way back into the fashion, firstly they were seen on every blogger worth her Canon, then they filtered onto the main stream when Katy Perry donned her baskeball boots at the Brits. Ankle length is cool but hi tops are better.

the bag

Backpacks were the bag du jour a couple of seasons ago, but smart girls know that hands free sacks will always be in style. Ana Faye and her team hand make these bags in Sligo using the finest Italian leather and they are lush.
