Five things you need to own NOW

Smart casual – perhaps the worst term in fashion lexicon – maybe ‘preppy’ comes close, but smart casual really is a doozy. However as naff and deeply uncool as the term is, we are talking about smart casual today. Summer dressing is hard enough but doing it without looking slightly dishevelled is quite tricky to pull off, but it can be done, here’s how.

the shorts

The length of a skirt the comfort of shorts, these high-waisted linen culottes are super smart. The paper bag detailing  at the midriff is so on trend it hurts, plus they come in at a tidy 20 euro so there’s no excuse.

the top

Leopard print is a perennial, but even though its a fashion staple, its particularly hot right now. Dorothy Perkins, a shop that’s often overlooked, has a killer collection of camisoles. This one is gorgeous plus it hits just below the hips which is lovely over jeans, but obvs can be tucked in with the shorts.

the bag

‘Hello the 80s called and they want their bum bag back?’ Well they’re not getting it. This one from Linea at House of Fraser is fab and best of all, it leaves your hands free for shopping, browsing and whatever else you’d like to do (without looking like an American tourist!)

the jacket

If you have designs on a denim jacket, then you HAVE to get your mitts on this one. Fringed from cuff to collar, you can strut your stuff like a glam rock star. ‘Nuff said.

the shoes

Slider mules. Mule sandals. Whatever you like to call them, they are the summer shoe of choice. These mock crock leather ones are very head girl. We heart.
